Tips and Ideas
Sometimes a horse can develop a sore as a result of the cinch rubbing
against their side. That type of cinch/girth sore can make riding almost
impossible. However, if you know how to Center Fire your saddle, you can still
go out and ride. When you Center Fire your saddle you are basically moving
the main cinch back a few inches so it runs down the center of the saddle.
First, you can get rid of the hind cinch, but leave the billets that attach to the
“D” rings. On the far side of the horse, or the off side, attach the main cinch to
both the billets for the main and hind cinches. This should make the billets for a
“V” on that side of the horse.
On the near side of the horse, or the tie side, you will want to run the cinch
strap down from the front D-ring, through the cinch, and then back up to the
hind D-ring. This should look like a “V” also.
Just make sure that you use a breast collar when you Center Fire your rig.
With the cinch moved back, there is a great chance the saddle will shift and
come loose while riding. So for safety, use a breast collar to help stabilize the
saddle.
